Many people with mental health struggles do not realize they have some level of Complex PTSD. By understanding how we have internalized shame during childhood, we can take the first step toward healing. Traumatic Invalidation is a concept from DBT that explains how we internalize beliefs about our identity that are untrue but extremely hard to manage.

The first step on the healing journey is to reflect on what shame you carry. If you feel unloveable, rejected, stupid, misunderstood, or less than, there is a strong possibility that you internalized this when you were a child.
